Jason Hope points to the fact that, when many of today’s Baby Boomers were growing up, cartoons like the Jetsons and shows, such as Star Trek, told of things to come, a future in which every family would have a flying car and in which computers could bake cookies from raw elements like carbon and oxygen.

Hope points out that, although many people don’t know this, the jet airliners of the late ’50s and early ’60s were actually considerably faster than those of today. One jetliner that was in common usage in the year 1960, the Convair 880, was capable of cruising at nearly the speed of sound. That’s almost 25 percent faster than a typical jet today.

But Hope sees this disappointment of failed progress coming to an end. As the Internet of Things comes online, people may well have their own flying cars soon.

ClassDojo Raises $21 Million In The Second Round Of Venture Funding

In their series B round of venture funding for technology that aims at connecting teachers, students and parents, ClassDojo raised $21 million. General Catalyst and new investors such as Reach Capital, Signal Fire and GSV led the closing round of funding. The co-founders of ClassDojo, Sam Chaudhary and Liam Don said that the capital raised was intended to be used for developing their team and improve the ClassDojo app by including useful content and features. The app aims at enhancing teacher-parent communication throughout the year, while creating a positive culture in classrooms. Through the app, parents are updated on their kid’s day at school.

Teachers communicate with parents instantly. This strategy is convenient for letting parents know their child’s performance in school. Teachers can capture photos or record videos of students’ work and participation in various activities and send them to parents.  They intend to make premium features and create content that parents would require to pay to access instead of generating revenue off users’ data.

Sam and Liam were motivated to start up ClassDojo after realizing that most companies in the education tech business did not have a free and user friendly app that would improve classroom experience. For the new intended features, ClassDojo could also enable parents to make payments from their phones for various requirements like lunches or field trips through a transaction feature. The company has expanded from education tech accelerator through Imagine K12 to being part of Y combinator.
